Installation
How to install NeoMath, NeoChem and NeoConverter on Windows, Linux and macOS, and what each installer puts on your computer.
Neo apps are standalone desktop programs. Each one has its own installer, and all of them can be installed side by side on the same computer. Everything runs on the computer itself, including NeoCR; the internet is only used now and then to confirm the license and check for updates.
What gets installed#
| Product | Executable | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| NeoMath | NeoMath |
equation editor, export, Word, OCR, NeoScript and the local API |
| NeoChem | NeoChem |
chemical structures, reactions and formulas |
| NeoConverter | NeoConverter |
conversion of equations, chemistry and preferences, one file or in batch |
NeoMath also installs the command-line tools (neomath, neoscript), the MCP server (neomath-mcp) and the NeoScript documentation as PDF, HTML and Markdown, in the docs/ folder next to the executable.
Install#
Windows
The installer is a single file, NeoMath-Setup-<version>.exe (or NeoChem-Setup-…), in Portuguese, English and Spanish, and it does not require administrator rights.
- Double-click the installer.
- Pick the options: Desktop shortcut, Start menu shortcut, pin to the taskbar and use as the default program (
.epsin NeoMath,.neochemin NeoChem). - In NeoMath, keep Start the local API with Windows on if you will use the InDesign plugin or scripts that talk to the app.
- Click Install. The program goes to
%LocalAppData%\Programs\NeoMathand shows up in Installed apps, with its own uninstaller.
To pin to the taskbar, Windows shows the “Do you want to pin…?” question the first time the app opens; confirm it. Windows also does not let a program make itself the default for a type that already has an owner (such as .eps): the option opens Settings › Default apps already on the product.
Linux
There are two packages for each app:
NeoMath-<version>-linux-amd64.deb: installs system-wide in/usr/lib/neomath, with theneomathcommand, the menu entry, icons and file types..tar.gzwithinstalar.sh: installs for your user only, withoutsudo.
sudo apt install ./NeoMath-0.2.0-linux-amd64.debtar xzf NeoMath-0.2.0-linux.tar.gz
./instalar.sh
./instalar.sh --padraoNeoMath EPS files are recognized by the system, without changing the icon of other EPS files. The .deb and instalar.sh also start the local API with your session (autostart).
macOS
Open NeoMath-<version>-macos.dmg and drag the app to Applications. The package is for Macs with Apple Silicon.
On first launch, Gatekeeper may ask for confirmation: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
On macOS the local API does not start by itself yet; run NeoMath --servidor when you use InDesign or scripts.
Silent installation#
To install on many computers (labs, newsrooms), the Windows installer accepts command-line options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
--silencioso |
installs without a window, with Desktop and Start menu shortcuts |
--sem-abrir |
does not open the program at the end |
--sem-api |
does not start the local API at login |
--desinstalar |
removes the program |
NeoMath-Setup-0.2.0.exe --silencioso --sem-abrirUpdates#
With the license activated, the app looks for new versions when it opens and every 6 hours, downloads in the background and installs when you close the program. Shortcuts, the local API, the Word integration and the file associations you chose are kept.
Uninstall#
- Windows: Settings › Installed apps › NeoMath › Uninstall, or
NeoMath-Desinstalar.exein the program folder. - Linux:
sudo apt remove neomathfor the.debpackage. - macOS: drag the app to the Trash.
